Bob Gardiner.

An Australian singer, guitarist, songwriter. Born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1946. Primarily known as lead singer, guitarist and Co founding member of  Adelaide group “The Harts” from 1965 to 1972 formed in Adelaide, South Australia following a solo career spanning over forty years.

Genres: Rock , Pop, Contemporary.

Early influences: Stem from one of the first films seen when very young was “The Jolson Story” staring Larry Parks who played Al Jolson. The impression of the film has always stayed with him including many standard songs from mainly American songwriters.

In 1961 Bob began singing at the “KT Club” in Adelaide as a solo artist and later joined a group in the Northern suburbs called “The Steelmen” who would later change the Name to “Bob Gardiner and The Pirates”. The group would become resident at the “Kiama Club” and also resident band at the “KT Club”. This group would later disband with Bob and drummer Peter Mackay forming “The Harts” with Derek Manning and Harry Herni joining the band.

“The Harts” became Adelaide’s top group in the late seventies recording for the EMI label. The group toured the East coast of Australia and the West during the group’s duration and finally disbanding in Perth, Western Australia in 1972.

Bob remained in Perth and began a solo career playing most of the prominent clubs and hotels in and around Perth as well as working Adelaide, Melbourne, Queensland coast, Sydney and the Northern Territory.

Bob now resides in Adelaide, South Australia.

Favourite singers include: Nat “King” Cole, Stevie Wonder, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Johnny Mathis, Ella Fitzgerald, Harry Nilsson, Linda Ronstadt, etc.

Favourite bands: The Beatles” at the top of the list and a close second to “The Bee Gees”. Also “The Electric Light Orchestra” and the group “Yes”.

Bob regards Australian band that should be noted considers “The Little River Band” for their works and accomplishments in Australia and internationally. Also holds great admiration for Australia’s “John Farnham” for his success over the years rating John Farnham as Australia’s very best surpassing many of his predecessors.

Favourite composers: Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, Harry Warren and many others of that era. Also later composers that include: Paul McCartney, John Lennon, The Bee Gees, Brian Wilson, Neil Sedaka and many more which should not be over looked.

Favourite Songs: – “Stardust” – By Hoagy Carmichael –  “In My Life” – By John Lennon – “At Last” – By Mack Gordon and Harry Warren. “Someone to Watch Over Me” – George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin.

Favourite film scores: – The Theme from “Picnic” the 1955 film. A combination of two melodies.  Music by George Dunning and lyrics by Steve Allen. The second version by Morris Stalloff and George Cates. The song is built around “Moonglow”. Also the film score from “The Natural” – By Randy Newman.
